I was optimistic because I was referred to Michelle and because of the positive reviews. I was excited to work with an all-female team. Throughout the process, there was constant anxiety from lack of communication and yet I was charged for whatever communication was happening between attorneys that I was not privy to. It was clear that my ex’s attorney was keeping him looped in. I’d send emails with questions and not hear back. I’d upload documentation for disclosure early but was then told I did it incorrectly close to when it was due. Michelle was empowering in my initial consultation. Once I hired her and finally would get to talk to Michelle, she said things like, “I have multiple cases right now that are like emergency surgeries, and yours is not an emergency. I’ve worked with women who are older than you, have been married longer, and have children. At least you didn’t have a kid… But if you want one, you don’t need a man to do that. You’re still young.” Statements like these were dismissive and invalidating. Divorce is painful enough. Elena, the senior paralegal, was the most communicative, and I appreciate her for that.
